Food gets Portland on the Fast Cities list

After naming Deborah Kane to its list of Sustainable Food Leaders earlier this year, Fast Company magazine continued its love affair with Portland's food scene by naming the city to its Fast Cities 2010 list for its focus on farm-to-table food.

Kane was recognized for her work on the Ecotrust project FoodHub, an online matchmaking service for food producers and food sellers, and FoodHub was mentioned again in the Fast Cities write-up.

"In February, the city welcomed a new high-tech tool to bring large-scale, farm-fresh foods to city hospitals, public schools, corporate cafeterias — even Oregon state prisons."

Other cities recognized by the magazine include Boulder, Colo., for being one of the first cities to implement smart-grid technology; Austin, Texas, for its Car2go car-sharing program sponsored by Daimler; and New York City for its emerging urban farms.
