DOE releases new rules for biomass credit
The Oregon Department of Energy said Friday it instituted new temporary administrative rules for a biomass tax credit program.
The rules affect the Biomass Producer or Collector (or BPC) Tax Credit Program which was changed by the Oregon State Legislature during the 2009 session. The credit now requires that biomass projects meet a specific criteria and it sets a minimum discount value for a transfer of tax credits to another entity.
BPC tax credits are available for certain agricultural producers or biomass collectors that deliver biomass to be used for energy production or processed into a biofuel. To be eligible to claim a tax credit, the biomass must meet the criteria in the new rules and be produced or collected in Oregon.
Applicants can apply for BPC tax credits using forms available on the DOE’s website.
The temporary rules are effective for 180 days ending December 28, 2010.
