The Portland Metropolitan Association of Building Owners and Managers announced Tuesday the launch of a new program to entice commercial building operators to reduce their carbon emissions.
The Carbon4Square initiative targets the four areas where existing buildings can reduce their impact on the environment: waste generation, water usage, electricity usage and transportation logistics. The program shorthands the list as the four W's: watts, water, waste and wheels.
Commercial building owners and property managers have until the end of January, 2011, to register for the program which will provide participants with free advice and technical support to achieve sustainability goals in building operations.
Prizes will be awarded at the end of the program which runs from February 2011 - March 2012.
