Samsung will work with Climate Savers to improve the efficiency of computer equipment.
Climate Savers Computing Initiative, a tech industry consortium focused on energy efficiency for computer equipment, announced Tuesday that Samsung Electronics joined the nonprofit as a member of its board of directors.
Portland-based Climate Savers, which was launched out of Intel Corp., is run by a board of directors including industry heavy hitters Cisco, Emerson, F5 networks, Google, Intel, Juniper Networks, Microsoft, the World Wildlife Fund — and now Samsung.
The initiative's overall membership is close to 680 members.
Last summer, Climate Savers released a report that showed the industry had reduced carbon dioxide emissions from IT equipment by 32 million metric tons.
Members of Climate Servers work together to improve energy efficiency across all kinds of computing equipment from servers to smartphones.
