Environmental consulting firm Ash Creek Associates Inc. was acquired last week by Apex Companies LLC of Rockville, Md.
Portland-based Ash Creek gives Apex, a portfolio company of private equity firm Tailwind Capital, a foothold in the Pacific Northwest.
"We are excited to be partnering with a firm of Ash Creek's caliber," said Peter Young, Chairman of Apex, which has some 400 employees nationwide. "Ash Creek represents an opportunity to expand our Pacific Northwest presence to better serve our existing client base and to add new blue chip customers."
Ash Creek has worked on Metro's Brownfield Recycling Program. Other clients include CalPortland and North Portland Road LLC.
Tailwind, which is based in New York and specializes in investing in middle-market companies, acquired Apex in 2010. Last August, Apex picked up environmental engineering firm Titan Engineering Inc. of Dallas.
Details of the transaction, which closed Dec. 30, were not disclosed.
"This combination works at every level - providing enhanced service to our combined clients through expanded geographic coverage and service lines, and greater career opportunities for our employees," said Herb Clough, Ash Creek principal, in a press release.
According to the Portland Business Journal's 2012 Book of Lists, Ash Creek has 28 employees and had $6.7 million in revenue in 2010.
