Good and IBM teamed up to find the smartest, most sustainable mid-market companies. They found three of them in Portland.
Good magazine released a list of 40 companies that its editors determined are making the world a better place. Portland has three of its companies on the list: gDiapers, Keen Footwear and New Seasons Market.
"The Good Company Project was our quest to find 40 businesses with between 100 and 1,000 employees that are working better and smarter for a smarter, better world,"Good's editors said via the project's website.
Companies were judged based on their core values including diversity, creativity, globalization, social responsibility, sustainability and innovation. The project was sponsored by IBM Corp.
And interactive graphic on Good's website plots the selected companies by industry in each of the categories.
Other companies on the list include Zipcar, Patagonia, King Arthur Flour and Honest Tea.
The video here explains why small and medium businesses — also known as mid-market companies — are important to the discussion of smarter and more sustainable businesses.
