The University of Oregon Ford Alumni Center in Eugene was recognized with the Interior Beauty of Wood award. Architect on the project was Opsis Architecture of Portland. Engineer was Haris Engineering of Overland Park, Kan.
Sustainably grown and responsibly harvested, wood is often hailed as the greenest of green building materials.
WoodWorks, an initiative of the Wood Products Council serves to promote the use of wood in green buildings and each year hands out awards that shine a light on the best use of wood in building design.
"We received more than 90 submissions from across the U.S.," said Adrian Blocker, president and CEO of WoodWorks, in a press release. "They were evaluated by a jury of architects, who had to make some very tough decisions—and they did a great job. The winners truly exemplify wood's versatility and the variety of ways wood products can be used to create outstanding architecture.”
Not surprisingly, a good helping of the winners hail from the Pacific Northwest. We've gathered them here for your viewing pleasure.
