Austin tackles 30-year waste-reduction plan

The Austin City Council approved a plan Wednesday to drastically reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills by 90 percent by 2030.

The 30-year plan for Austin Resource Recovery, the city’s trash department, projects future activities and services to reduce trash, reuse products, and recycle and compost the rest.

“Austin Resource Recovery is transforming from an agency focused on waste management collection to one focused on materials resource management,” said Bob Gedert, Austin Resource Recovery director. “This master plan is the road map to get us to zero waste.”
