Blu Homes acquired San Francisco-based Modern Cabana.

Prefabricated home maker Blu Homes Inc. bought Modern Cabana in San Francisco, which makes add ons for existing homes.

Blu Homes, which has offices in Waltham, Mass. and San Francisco, didn't say what it paid in this deal.

Modern Cabana, started in 2004, makes so-called "cabanas," which can be added onto existing homes usually without a permit. Blu Homes will start selling the structures -- which can typically be built "over the course of a weekend," next year.

Blu Homes, which closed a $60 million investment in September, has its own factory in a 223,600-square foot building finished in 1940 on the former Mare Island Naval Shipyard near Vallejo.

Bill Haney, who helped start Blu Homes, is its president.
